Pineknot VIII 2012

Hopefully, everyone who attended had a great time both visiting with friends, or by participating in the events that we had. The weather cooperated pretty well. We had bright sunny skies with cool gentle breezes until Saturday. Saturday brought a slightly cooler breeze and some overcast skies.

We had 80 trailers attend this year. Last year we had close to 90. Registration for this year reached as high as 87, but a few people became ill, or had other commitments that prevented them from coming. I think that 80 is a very comfortable number for us as long as we are at Crockett Family Resort. If we had much more than that, a few more folks might need to double up in the spaces. We had a number of folks that traveled to Pineknot from other states. The following came to Texas to participate in Pineknot:

Herschel & Darlene Van Buren, AR

Konrad & Lyn Camp Verde, AZ

Jeff Camarillo, CA

Don & Trudy Dunnellon, FL

John & Jean Deridder, LA

Errol & Mary Grace Mandeville, LA

Bob & Pat Diamondhead, MS

Ed Biloxi, MS

Garland & Linda Santa Fe, NM

John Center Moriches, NY

Tony & Jean Medford, OK

Walt Blackburg, VA

I want to (again) thank all of the folks who helped to make this rally fun for everyone:

Tom, Walt, Geary and Gary provided a Dutch Oven Cooking Demonstration on Friday afternoon. This year they had some great help from Martha Jo, Carolyn, and Melanie. A large crowd gathered under the shade of a tree to see these guys explain in detail how they prepare their wonderful meals in Dutch ovens. Samples were provided, but were gobbled up quickly. I’m pretty sure that there were no leftovers from this event.

Karan hosted a pet show on Friday morning. Lots of pets let us meet them again, and we got to see some new pets for the first time. Dann made a really nice plaque for the pet participant that was lucky enough to have their name drawn at the closing night. Larry and Curly won the plaque.

On Thursday Gary made a “trash can” turkey. Several folks went over to site #76 to see how this is done. After assuring everyone that the trash can used has never contained trash, Gary served it at the pot luck dinner on Thursday evening where it disappeared even more rapidly than if it still had wings.

Gary also provided a trailer tongue weighing service. All of the money raised from this is donated by Gary to the Wounded Warrior Project. Gary tells me that he raised $180 for WWP. Thanks Gary and all who gave to help this fund raiser.

Robert sold flags as a fundraiser for the Veterans Administration hospital in Dallas. Robert reports that he raised $95 at Pineknot which he turned in to the hospital. Thanks to everyone who purchased the flags, and thanks to Robert for providing the flag sets that were included in the welcome packets that we provided.

Pineknot VIII is tentatively scheduled for October 3-6, 2013. I’ve reserved those dates with Crockett Family Resort. Everyone who attended this year will be sent a pre-registration email from me (likely in June) letting you know that registration is about to begin.

I need pictures!!! Please send me some of the pictures that you took at Pineknot this year. I’ll put them together and post them where everyone who attended can view them. You can send them to me at Pineknot@mfrvg.com .

Finally, thank you all of you for allowing us to host this event for the third time. We really do want everyone to have a good time. We hope to see everyone back next year.

Fred & Mary Rosin
